Sixi Village
Located in the northwest of Wuyuan City in Jiangxi Province, Sixi is 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) away from the city center, which was built in the 5th year (1,199) of Qingyuan period in the Southern Song Dynasty (1,127 A.D.-1,279 A.D.), and it is surrounded by the hills on one side and water on the other, just like a diamond embedded in hills and water.
The ancient architectures and the nature environment are integrated as one perfectly, which are very picturesque with fascinating poetic imagery.
The highlight of Sixi lies in its architectures with exquisite craftsmanship in Hui-style, all of which are decorated with stone carvings, stone carvings and wood carvings, representing fully the characteristics of Hui-style architecture art.
The most well-known ancient architecture in the village is “Jingxu Hall”, which is famous because lots of scenes in the movie “Strange Tales of Liao Zhai 聊斋志异 ” - [link] are shot here, (LiaoZhai is a book written by PU Song-ling in the Qing Dynasty (1,616 A.D.-1,911 A.D.) mainly describing the amours between human and goblins.) and it is the best-preserved civilian residence in the village.
